Sunday, May 14, 2024; transplant day. I did it! All my seedlings went out every day last week and I’m ready to plant them outside. I invited my cousin and his daughters to help me because I remembered that his girls love being outside and playing with soil. I was hoping to have everything ready before they came. They are still very young, elementary and preschool age. If you have a plan for those ages, everything goes much more smoothly. As my friends and I often say, “life be life-ing”, meaning things don’t always go according to plan.
Despite my lack of preparation, I was able to fill in most of my new, larger bed with the help of the girls and we planted a few seedlings in a few pots. My garden is nowhere near where I’d like it to be, but I’m learning to be patient with myself and not push myself to exhaustion because of a plan or deadline I have in my head. After all, I’m just doing this for fun, so it shouldn’t be stressful.
I loved having the girls here. My daughter also joined us. It was a lovely time outside, just me and the girls. I hope it was an enjoyable experience for them. Who knows, maybe I planted a seed in their heads and one day they will decide to plant their own garden. In my case, the seed was planted at a young age. I guess I will have to wait and see.

A brief overview of what is in the ground. We planted calendula seeds, garlic cloves, chives, violas and artichokes. I had to buy the chives at the farmer’s market because the seeds I planted earlier this year didn’t survive. I plan to plant chamomile in the garden. I sowed these seeds a little later, so they’re not ready for outside yet. Also, I bought rosemary because I either forgot to plant it when I started everything else or it didn’t survive. My pride won’t let me give up on growing my own plants from seed, so I planted rosemary and chives in my egg crate and am waiting for them to sprout. I have plenty of gardens, so they will have a home if they survive.
This is the best and most fun science project I’ve ever done. I look forward to seeing the progress every day. Gardening really brings me peace, and I hope I don’t sound too corny, but this is my crafting my bliss ;).
