The last total solar eclipse in the United States was in 2017 and we won’t see another one until 2044. That’s pretty cool and I love that there have only been two eclipses in my lifetime and both times I was with my family. The kids were really excited so I got them proper solar glasses. The last time it happened, they were so young and disappointed that it didn’t get completely dark because we only see about 80% coverage. Now that they are older, they understand better how it works and they enjoyed it. The eclipse passed through our area in the mid to late afternoon. This is the time of day the kids get out of school. My middle child was the only one who made it home in time. My oldest was at track practice and my youngest was on the school bus on her way home. I had hoped to repeat the picture I took of them on the deck in 2017. Unfortunately, older children have different schedules.

I did manage to photograph a few of my seedlings. The eclipse was also the day I started hardening them off. They aren’t as cute as my babies, but I think this picture will have to do.

Last year I didn’t harden off my plants properly, I was too impatient. This year I vowed to do my research and do it right. The plan is to harden them off for a week. I will put them outside for a few hours each day and on Sunday, the seventh day of hardening off, I will plant them in their permanent homes. Fingers crossed that I’m patient and disciplined enough to pull this off.
