Crafting My Bliss

The Snow Drought Is Over

According to the news, it’s been over 700 days since we’ve had snow in Maryland. On Monday, January 15, 2024, the drought was over. I think I had about four inches of snow in my backyard. It was beautiful. The children had been praying for snow for so long. As much as I’m not a huge fan of it, I was extremely happy their prayers were answered. As a result, for the first time in several years, I had to share my oasis with the children. It was glorious!

It’s so interesting the things that change as your kids get older. When they were little and it snowed, they’d ask to go out and play in the snow. I’d have to gather all their snow gear and take them outside. This year, I ran out for a doctor’s appointment and returned to wet boots on a towel at the back door and coats hanging on the door. They decided they wanted to play in the snow and they did. Since they’re now older, I decided to make it more fun and suggested we do a nighttime glow snowball fight. My husband was out of town, and I had no idea when we’d have another snowstorm, so I wanted to make it memorable for them. I gathered all the glow sticks left over from my daughter’s birthday party and finished up the soup I was making for dinner. After the sun set, we bundled up and went into the backyard glowing. I turned on the music and snowballs went flying. The boys buried their sister in the snow, and we all had a blast.

I love spending time with them and making memories. My oldest will be away at college in a year and a half, so I want to make the most of our time together. It’s nice to know they’re never too old to play with me and I’m never too old to play with them. I’ll share my oasis with them anytime.
